State House Speaker and Republican U.S. Senate candidate Thom Tillis said Thursday night that if he were in the Senate in 2009, he would have voted against the $787 billion economic stimulus package. Speaker Tillis had the courage to speak his conviction. General consensus is, the economic stimulus package did not yield the benefit of stimulating the economy as forecasted. Regionally some areas may have benefitted; but statewide and nationally, the almost one trillion stimulus added to the unsustainable mounting debt.
