Statement from Slidell Police Chief Randy Smith about the recent winter storm: First and foremost, I am proud of the men and women of the Slidell Police Department and for their professionalism and dedication to the citizens of Slidell. Obviously, we aren’t used to frozen conditions like we saw this past week, however, we were prepared. We worked closely with Mayor Drennan, local, and state officials to ensure that our citizens were safe. I would also like to commend the all first responders and the City of Slidell public works crews for getting sand out on all 46 bridges throughout the city. I was in constant communication with the Louisiana State Police Commander for Troop to ensure that our agencies were sharing information and working together. The Louisiana State Police handed this statewide incident in a very professional and efficient manner. And last but not least, I would like to thank our wonderful citizens who adhered to our warnings to stay off the roadways. Due to their cooperation, we had little to no issues on the roadways. Stay safe! Sincerely, Chief Smith
