Statutory law refers to state or federal laws passed by the state legislature or Congress. Constitutional law refers to the U.S. Constitution or state constitution. Statutory law cannot be inconsistent with the U.S. Constitution, in the case of acts of Congress or with either the U.S. or the states constitution in the case of laws passed by state legislatures. The U.S. Constitution is the supreme law of the land--meaning no state or federal law can violate its terms.
