Steph’s Stuff 12-09-14 (I Want You!) Think about that old - TopicsExpress

Steph’s Stuff 12-09-14 (I Want You!) Think about that old recruiting poster. Uncle Sam, in all his patriotic splendor, points a finger and says, ‘I want YOU!” The message is simple—but profound. And who doesn’t want to be wanted? I ‘googled’ Uncle Sam and found out he was a representation that had evolved over the years. His stern face was first published as the magazine cover of ‘Leslies Weekly’ in 1916. Uncle Sam is immediately recognizable to the American public. Another reminder of a famous painting for me is the one where Jesus stands at the door and knocks. I found this on ‘Wikipreacher’: “The Victorian-era English artist William Holman Hunt, one of the founders of the Pre-Raphaelite school, is perhaps best known for his 1853 painting, “The Light of the World.” Its a literal depiction of this verse from Revelation. Jesus is literally standing at a door, knocking. Theres one peculiarity about the painting, though, that may appear, at first glance, to be an error on the artists part. Theres no doorknob. The lack of a doorknob is intentional. For, as the artist himself used to explain to those who asked, Jesus is waiting for us to open the door of our hearts and welcome him in. In Revelation 3:20 Jesus says, “Listen! I am standing at the door, knocking; if you hear my voice and open the door, I will come in to you and eat with you, and you with me.” Theres only one doorknob, and its on the inside. When Jesus comes knocking, its up to us to respond. Our Savior is a gentleman. He will not force Himself on us. It needs to be our own decision, of our free will. Have you ever had great things to tell your best friend and know they aren’t listening to you? How does that make you feel? I had a friend like that once. I would call her to tell her something pressing and important to me—and she would take over the conversation, never hearing the reason for my call. I am just as guilty. Someone will want to talk to me and I’ll promise to call them back at a better time—and I forget, falling asleep instead of caring for a friend who thought enough of me to seek my counsel. “When Jesus came back and found the disciples sleeping, he said to Simon Peter, “Are you asleep? Can’t you stay awake for just one hour?” Mark 14:37 (CEV) He WANTS me! He wants YOU! We need to open the door and welcome Him in because He has very important things to tell us, things that will guide us, protect us and instruct us in the ways we were created to go. Listen for His voice today. Because He wants you. Fondly, Stephanie
