Steve signing in at 7:46 AM. Skies are partly to mostly cloudy this morning with more clouds in the higher elevations. Temperatures are not particularly cold, with mainly mid to upper 30s, 35° at Morganton being the cold spot. Most of the snow so far has stayed to our west and north, even Boone reported only a few light flurries overnight and their temperature is down to the freezing mark as of latest report. Although another batch of snow showers is heading for the mountains, I believe were going to see mainly sunny to partly sunny skies today across the 4 county area with a chilly wind and highs only reaching the mid to upper 40s along the I-40 corridor, low 40s in NW Caldwell and mid 30s in extreme NW Burke and McDowell where a stray flurry may pass through this morning. After today, we should see moderating temperatures. Highs Thursday should reach the upper 40s, but low to mid 50s Friday through the weekend with sunny skies. Clouds start to move in late Monday after temperatures peak out in the upper 50s and rain showers are possible early Tuesday morning into the midday as another front moves through. Right now, this doesnt look like a system to be concerned about, a few hours of rain, maybe a few mountain snow showers in the mountains and slightly cooler temperatures in its wake.
