Storm update: Most of the roads are open. There are still some that are being tended to but should be open soon. Power is out throughout the county along the storms path. We know power crews are working rapidly to clear lines and get power restored. It could take all night to fix. Remember, treat all power lines as live until proven otherwise! No injuries were reported but we had a number of traffic accidents around the county that were quickly handled. We had two reports of seeing a funnel cloud. One came in near Pea Ridge Rd. and the other was near Juliette on 87. Those reports have been confirmed by the National Weather Service. We know they will have survey crews out tomorrow looking at the damage. Theyll take that visual inspection and compare it to their radar data. We know that the weather siren in Bolingbroke never activated. That is the newest siren and as of the last test it was fully operational. We will be looking into that first thing in the morning. All other sirens activated as expected. For those that texted, called, messaged and posted information to us during the event, we thank you! Well try to respond to all questions and comments and we appreciate those to brought damage and concerns to our attention. A huge thank you to the dozens of Monroe County Fire Department firefighters and Monroe County Sheriffs Deputies who are working hard right now. The night shift came in early and the day shift stayed late to handle the calls. Most of the firefighters out working are volunteer. Says a lot for them doesnt it?? Our 911 operators did a great job fielding calls and activating the sirens. We couldnt do our job without them. Finally, it appears as if lots of rakes and leaf blowers will be sold this week...........good luck with that....
