Style blogger Lydia overwhelmed after winning top award - Style blogger Lydia overwhelmed after winning top award 9:20pm Thursday 26th June 2014 in News By Flossie Mainwaring-Taylor, Reporter A SOUTH Lakeland student has won the style blogging equivalent of an Oscar at a swanky summer-themed London ceremony. Lydia Smyth, 19, of Ulverston, was awarded Company magazine’s Best Personal Style Blogger Newcomer at The Oval on June 18. “I’m still really overwhelmed and shocked because it never crossed my mind that I could win, and then I saw a picture of my blog show up in the background of the stage. “I was standing with a camera in one hand, my drink in the other and I had a clutch under my arm and I just stood still,” she said. Lydia, who studies English Literature at Warwick University, was just one of 43,000 entrants which were whittled down into categories with shortlists of ten. A keen photographer, she uses her blog to share her love of fashion and writes about her outfit choices and vintage clothes with ‘a story to tell’. After being chosen by editors, the shortlisted bloggers were then put to a vote. “Some of the people in my category are really well known so it was big competition. “I was there just as a blogger, but then suddenly it became about my career,” added Lydia. As well as being congratulated by Company’s editor Victoria White, Lydia has been contacted by PR companies and has had an influx of new followers and hits to her blog which already gets thousands daily. She continued:“I won a trophy, but it’s more about the coverage than anything else. “It’s really motivated me to up my blog and start blogging every day.” The award-winning blogger and aspiring journalist will now go on to complete a summer internship at the same famous fashion magazine this year.
