Subhanallah...a simple reflection! The Prophet, may Allah praise him, said: I give you the glad-tidings and good news of the coming of the Mahdi. He shall come forth during a time of great confusion/oppression/problems/disputation among people and numerous natural calamities. If I may, its as though we are living this prophecy...its as though it is unfolding before our very eyes! When the word oppression is brought up, one of the first things that comes to our minds is the oppression of tyrants and oppressive rulers...and the argument can be made from a historical perspective, and we are living in unprecedented times, that oppression has never been greater! WE are witnessing a period of rulers who simply are in it for the sake of personal gain, wealth, authority and power no matter the cost! But in reality...oppression extends beyond this limit...its not just in relation to the injustice of a ruler that makes a time oppressive...it also pertains to students of knowledge...HOW IS THIS POSSIBLE?! Well its quite simple...and in my personal estimation, I believe the Fitnah brewed up by students of knowledge may at times be worse and more disuniting than that brought forth by oppressive rulers...in fact people usually unite in the face of tyranny! But when students of knowledge get involved in the mix, and are the sources of disunity, true hatred and anger is spread far and wide! What we really lack today is the mannerisms that should be upheld and carried during disputes. When students of knowledge ignite the flames of Fitnah by brining up issues of legitimate Khilaaf (variance of opinion) and try to impose their view upon the vast majority...and label those who dont take by it as Fitnah mongerers, this in itself is downright disuniting and also causes unprecedented fitnah! Lets be agents of positive change, and spread a good message...even when we are unable to come to terms on a certain issue that has legitimate Khilaaf, know that there are bigger issues the Ummah faces today! We ask Allah to bless us all and grant us success in this life and in the next. Ameen
