Subject: Professor Errol Miller to Deliver CXC 40th Anniversary Lecture in Jamaica Professor Emeritus, The Honourable Errol Miller, a distinguished Caribbean academic will deliver the second public lecture for the Caribbean Examinations Council (CXC) 40th Anniversary on Thursday 11 July 2013 at the Pegasus Hotel in Jamaica starting at 7: 30 pm. Professor Miller will speak on the topic: CXC and Jamaica – A Symbiotic Relationship. Professor Miller is the current Chancellor of Mico University College, a post he has held since 2007. He is Professor Emeritus, Institute of Education, University of the West Indies, Mona, since 2006 and was Professor of Teacher Education at the Institute of Education from 1981 to 2005. Professor Miller has also served in many civic roles including as President of the Jamaica Teachers Association; Independent Senator in the Jamaican Parliament for five years; Chairman of the Electoral Commission of Jamaica and several boards related to public service in Jamaica. An accomplished author, Professor Miller has written several books on gender, family and education including. Among his of his most popular works are: Marginalisation of the Black Male, Men at Risk, and The Prophet and the Virgin: The Masculine and Feminine Roots of Teaching. He has authored 17 books and monographs, 30 chapters of books and over 70 papers and reports in peer-review publications. Professor Miller is the recipient of numerous awards and honours for contribution to education and public service including two Fulbright Fellowships for Senior Academics; Jamaican national honours, Commander of the Order of Distinction and Order of Jamaica; The University of the West Indies, Vice Chancellor’s Award for Excellence; UWI Doctor of Laws Honoris Causa; The UWI Alumni Association Pelican Award in 2006; Jamaica Teachers Association Honour Roll and the Albert Shanker Education Award for 2004 by Education International. Professor E. Nigel Harris, Chairman of CXC will give remarks at the lecture, while former Pro Registrar, Professor Stafford Griffith will moderate the evening’s proceedings, and former Registrar, Mrs Irene Walter will give closing remarks.
