Suggestion: First of all, I find the whole sentiment regarding the cancellation of Christmas Parties as commendable! It shows a level of compassion wherein people will sacrifice out of sensitivity and out of the desire to help others. But, I have a suggestion. Go on with your Christmas Gatherings. Why? Because people NEED to come together. Its at times like these that community needs to be built, supported and strengthened. Rather than everyone be asked to sacrifice and be on their own, come together because we need to. Even if just to share what we felt, or to give thanks. Imagine, offices that work hard throughout the year need that occasional time to come together not to work, but to relax, let go, and treat each other as friends rather than just coworkers. Of course, you can still be having your Christmas get together without being insensitive, you dont have to have a lavish party. You can scale down the spending on the food and drinks, or you can even do it pot luck for a greater sense of community. Plus, you might even want to use it to become a means to continue helping. Use it as a way to raise funds for the victims. Or simply ask each person to bring a gift, instead of the usual kris kringle, as each one to bring a gift for the victims. I am sure there are creative ways to wherein we can use it to still help out adding a little Christmas spirit to it. Come together, we all need that. One of the great blessings that came out of this horrible tragedy is that it made the nation One! It made us one in compassion and helping. Lets continue that oneness. Come together to give thanks and celebrate life no matter how simple, because even in the darkest moments, there is still much life gives to thank for and celebrate. Just a suggestion.
