Suggestions, opinions, advice, and direction needed. I am - TopicsExpress

Suggestions, opinions, advice, and direction needed. I am currently enrolled in a BS in Sec. Ed/ English. Through the courses I have taken, I have become overwhelmed with compassion for special needs. In a perfect world, I would like to teach secondary education, special education. Then, get a masters in counseling. I would like to help in the transition process for those with special needs to either post secondary education or career placement. I can complete all but my student teaching online. The problem is that I am with GCU, online. GCU does not offer a BS in Sec. Ed/ Special Education for LA. My only option to stay fully online, which is what I want, is to change to BS in Elem. Ed./ Special Ed., then receive a masters in counseling. My current advisor told me either way sec. or elem. doesn’t really matter because I cannot fully help with transition without being a counselor. Knowing, regardless of what I teach, that my end in mind is to receive a master’s in counseling and I want to work with special needs children, what do you suggest? I much prefer sec. ed but I cannot have it all, and stay online! HELP!
