Sunday Afternoons with the Ancient Christians: Romans 8:11, If the Spirit of him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, he who raised Christ Jesus from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through his Spirit who dwells in you, (ESV). From Origen Commentary on the Epistle to the Romans: If the Spirit of Christ dwells in you, it seems essential that his dwelling place (i.e., your body) will be given back to him and his temple restored. This is how you can know whether you have the Spirit of Christ or not. Christ is wisdom, so if you are wise according to Christ and know what is his, then by this wisdom you have the Spirit of Christ. Likewise, Christ is righteousness; therefore, if you have the righteousness of Christ, by that righteousness you have the spirit of Christ. Christ is peace; of you have Christs peace in you, then through the Spirit of peace yo have the Spirit of Christ. So it goes with love, with sanctification and with all that belongs to Christ. the one who has these things may be confident of having the Spirit of Christ in him and can hope that his mortal body will be restored to life on account of he Spirit of Christ dwelling in him. So, how do you know if you have the wisdom, righteousness, peace, love, sanctification and all that belongs to Christ? #Baptism Another way is to be certain is to hear the words of Scripture and know that they are true for you. For it is by faith that all that is Christs becomes yours. #WordAndSacrament While he has gems of good sayings like the above, Origen did have a few teachings wrong, such as apokatastasis (that God will restore all things to the way they were/supposed to be, both believer and non-believer, which suggests that all are saved regardless of faith) an a strange idea that souls existed before bodies were given to them (pre-existance of souls).
