Sunday’s GBXC provided plenty of racing action but one event - TopicsExpress

Sunday’s GBXC provided plenty of racing action but one event stands out in the minds of the many spectators who sat overlooking the twisty field section near the finish. Sportsman rider Craig Szczpek entertained onlookers with one of the longest crashes ever witnessed at a GBXC event, it went on for over 200 yards! Craig came through lap scoring and hit a slight rise, which shifted him back on the seat of his bike. He grabbed hard to hang on to his machine and hit full throttle in the process. Rocketing into a sharp right-hander, he skilfully drifted the back end out, edging even further towards the back of the bike and just managed to save a high-sider as he hit a long straight section, fishtailing wildy as he went. He then saved several potential high-siders before leaving the course and hitting the grassy area at the centre of the field. By this time he was in full Superman mode as well as at full chat, legs off the back of the bike, lying prone along the seat, hanging on for dear life, his brain saying ‘let go’ but the signals failing to reach his right hand. How all this would end was not in doubt, when it would end was. Surviving two vicious bumps he did well but the third and final bump saw him dislodged from his machine, face down and winded as the bike somersaulted onwards, eventually finishing in a heap, still at full revs. He was uninjured thankfully. A huge Thank You from the crowd of onlookers. It was brilliant, full of tension, lucky escapes and close calls right up to the bitter end. He still managed fifth in class. What a bloke!
