Sunshine Coast Council story. Settlement history Settlement of the area dates from the late 1800s, with land used mainly for timber-getting and farming. Significant residential development did not occur until the 1960s, with rapid growth during the 1970s and 1980s. The population continued to increase from the early 1990s, a result of new dwellings being added to the area. Population growth is expected to continue, particularly in Birtinya, Bokarina and Wurtulla.
