Super Excited! This year I am going to be offering a full day of Enrichment classes in Moreno Valley. You can sign up for one or all 4 classes. Myself and another teacher will be teaching at the same time so the kids have two options each enrichment hour to sign up for. Heres a list of what we are offering, 9:30 to 10:45 Zombie Survival Geography (5th and up) When the undead first come slavering for brains, your survival depends on being able to map the attacks, identify infected regions and find safety zones, and locating supply caches and emergency escape routes—in other words, on mapping skills, the concept of regions, and the ability to devise and use mental maps all while including Zombies! Get A Clue (1st to 6th) Put on your thinking cap and bust out your trusty notebook to solve daily mysteries. Use your critical thinking and reading comprehension skills to unearth clues in puzzles, investigations and a scavenger hunt.Of course you will need the right props and tools to be a detective all of which will be provided. Employ your best sleuthing techniques to become a master detective! 10:45 to 12:00 Business Bug (5th and up) Have you been bitten by the business bug? Think you have what it takes to run a business? Learn the ins and outs of a business by showing your skills off. Research a product of your choice and create a business to market it. By completing technology tasks, students reinforce math, computer, and Internet navigation skills. Students will create nameplates, business cards, brochures, Web pages, and other marketing materials. Students will learn basic business principles, create and maintain simple profit and loss spread sheets, and graph their progress. Throughout the class students will be given fate cards which will affect their business, with the opportunity to problem solve using higher-order, critical thinking. There will be guest speakers on this topic. Space Travelers (1st to 6th) Become a space cadet and travel around the solar system, students research the locations (planets, asteroids, comets, and meteors), write about them in their Space Explorers Log, read stories and complete a variety of interactive activities. They gather galactic facts and complete activities cooperatively and individually appealing to all learning styles. The class will be culminated with a Press Conference of all the students galactic findings (we will offer a field trip to a planetarium to go with this if interested) 12:00 to 12:30 lunch (if kids have before or after classes they are welcome to stay) 12:30 to 1:45 Computer Game Coding (5th and up) Wonder how they make video games? Want to learn to program computers? Learn the skills to make your own video game in this class. We will start off with a quick intro to Scratch and quickly move on to actual video games. My hope is that this class can run two 8 week sessions with kids leaving with completed games they designed. There will be guest speakers on this topic. Must provide own laptop. All-ways Art (all ages) Let your inner artist out! Learn how to make your artwork come alive! Discover how to use composition, shading, balance, horizon and many other principles of art and design to elevate your art to masterpieces. We will supply the utensils, you bring your enthusiasm and creativity 1:45 to 3:00 Cake Decorating (all ages) Make beautiful roses, sprays of flowers, an edible cactus, learn how to decorate cakes like a professional. We will start with borders and move on to as complicated things as the students want to learn.
