Thousands of people gathered for a fest today in the town and police used water canons, rubber bullets and huge amount of tear gas. Kadiköy is like the capital of Asian side of Istanbul, and predominantly dissident town. The new wave of Gezi protest erupted after riot police killed Ahmet Atakan in Hatay province of Turkey, during a rally for denouncing war against Syria and calling government to account for its previous murders.
