TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES (2014) Now this is an incredibly difficult movie for me to be clear and concise about. I have been emotional invested in these character for more than 2 decades well nearly 3 now and thats in all the various incarnations. Cartoons comics live action movies and CGI movies. Lets begin first off this film looks great the CGI at least In my opinion is spot on its big bold and colourful. So much so that the turtles do in a mild way look a little creepy because they so convincingly expressive. This film if nothing else is amazing at presenting these turtles as brothers. The bicker they fight they rough each other up but fight side by side as one. They are entertaining and fun throughout and each turtle is presented as an individual like never before. Different sizes and shapes different outfits which takes so getting used to I admit. There immense size if nothing else is something to get used to. Splinter in his moments shines and is presented as both wise and tough seeing him throw down is a great thing. Onto the villains you cant have TMNT without SHREDDER and he is intense in his scenes and presents a genuine seemingly unstoppable force obviously the modernised SHREDDER is part NINJA and part robot as making the turtles 7foot monsters u gotta make the big bad bigger. The FOOT CLAN here are no longer a NINJA clan they are mercenaries armed to the teeth and trigger happy. This film marks the first big adventure for these turtles as they learn their strengths and grow stronger from their mistakes its never forgotten that these are only teenagers so taking the enemy threat as a joke is essential. Mid way the film gets surprisingly hard edged with some very well created drama as the beats hit and the risks esculate I found myself completely engrossed in watching these young warriors fight back. And try to win. The overall story arc is a plan to spread infection and gain money selling a cure the already rich bad guy wants more money and is typically selfish and dominating in his quest. But through all the battles and the action the brothers and more importantly never forgets its light hearted roots as the turtles bicker and encourage each other to better themselves. One scene inparticular involving a snowy mountain escape sets up each turtles individual abilities brilliantly and is edge of the seat action that continues right to the end. MEGAN FOX I believe did a fairly good job at being April oneal being our key into the turtles world she manages to stay involved and good to watch but does not take away from her CGI created co stars. Filled with pop culture references and kicking sound track and a simple effective plot this movie REBOOTS a franchise in a new way with a new origin story which is fine as TMNT fans will know there are many TMNT universes and the all exist side by side and this is a fun filled edition to be proud of. MICHAEL BAY Ill let you off this time. Easily 9-10 seeing my beloved turtles come to life again without rubber suits this time is refreshing and exciting.
