THANKS -THE-HINDU UDHAGAMANDALAM, September 15, 2014 Meeting to resolve Badaga association issue With concern growing over the problems in the Young Badagas Association (YBA), an organisation of the Badaga community, defying a solution for the past several months, a meeting was held at Anikorai near here on Sunday. Representatives of the community from various parts of the district participated. Speakers stressed the need to bring the deadlock to end and throw open the YBA premises here. Among other things, the premises is let out for conducting marriages. Located at a convenient place on Lord Wenlock Road, the YBA hall now wears a deserted look since it has been sealed by the district administration on account of a bitter fight among a few hundred persons belonging to two factions in the association to gain control of the premises. With the demand for wedding halls rising, a hope being expressed by many here was that the dispute in the YBA would be resolved soon and a lasting solution found to the issue relating to the management of the association. Meanwhile, impartial members of the Badaga community are hoping that the divisions in the YBA would disappear before the curtain goes up in December on ‘Hetthai Habba’, the main festival of the Badagas. Officials and the police opine that the two factions should hold a joint meeting and iron out their differences.
