THE BEST P.M. OF INDIA -------------------------- Though not - TopicsExpress

THE BEST P.M. OF INDIA -------------------------- Though not clear as to how to analyse this topic, yet I start with achievements and failures of Nehru, Indira and Vajpayee respectively as tenures of only these three have been of some consequence lengthwise. 1.Jawahar Lal Nehru -------------------- Born with a silver spoon in his mouth , brought up in the lap of peerless luxury , and educated in the company of scions of the royal family,he became epitome of renunciation and sacrifice to the extreme extent of donating even his residential house namely Anand Begawan to the nation. During his tenure India made big strides in industrialisation and agriculture. Foreign policy was the hallmark of Nehru era. However Kashmir problem and defeat in war with China are two sore and negative points in his unblemished score as P.M. 2.Indira Gandhi ----------------- Some people think that Mrs.Gandhi came to become P.M. because of dynastic gravitational forces. This is far from truth and completely fallacious as after Nehrus death,it was Lal Bahadur Shastri who succeeded him and not Indiraji. Moreover she captured premiership in the presence of all powerful syndicate. She was a person endowed with strong resolve to have her way even in the stiffest conditions. Her greatest achievement and moment came in the creation of Bangladesh when even Vajpayeeji as leader of opposition praised her as incarnation of Durga. Nationalisation of banks and establishing India as a nuclear power were no small feathers in her cap as P.M. Proclamation of emergency and gagging of press is even now regarded to be an dictatorial step attributed to her despite of the fact that a lady dictator in such a vast country is beyond comprehension. This was proved by the masses within a period of two years or so. Atal Bihari Vajpayee -------------------- There is no denying the fact that Vajpayeeji was an orator par excellence. He was praised even by his opponents for this God-given gift His greatest achievement as P.M. was that he completed full five years of NDA rules. Some people give him the credit of a win in Kargil war but they forget as to at what cost.It is a matter of history that India lost more than 3000 defence personnel This happened due to initial hesitance or late decision making. May be health reasons,a P.M does not set a nice example in going to address the nation from the ramparts of Red Fort on Indendence day bare footed in one leg in full view of the nation and then present foreign dignitaries. CONCLUSION ------------------- Jawahar Lal Nehru was the best prime minister India has, so far ,had.
