THE CUSTOMER - THE NEW AVANT-GARDE OF THE REVOLUTIONARY MOVEMENT The customers of Better Place held a rally today, driving hundreds of electric cars in convoy around Tel-Aviv, to promote their newly formed customer collective to save the dream of electrifying the car in Israel and the world. Better Place, in theory and in concept, was a genuine revolutionary company. To imagine and implement an entire infrastructure to make the electrification of the car a reality represents a deep understanding of the trends driving forth all of civilizational progress. And this new twist in the saga - that despite the exile of the visionary leader and the bankrupting of the company - the idea lives on - so powerful was its vision that the customers, those who actually paid money for the product - are so enamoured of this vision that not only did they buy the car, they are going to fight to keep it. Not a collective of the workers, but a collective of the customers - this location of the communalist priciple not at the point of production but at the point of consumption may be the missing link required to make the cooperative work. If customers all unanimously and unequivocably demanded GM Free food, and refused with their money to pay for it, there would be no GM Food. If customers refused to watch low-quality awful TV programming, it would disappear. The customer is the centre of the entire economy. On her whim companies rise and fall. Her smallest footsteps followed and analysed by teams of prognosticators and soothsayers. With the customer lies the power.
