THE DIAMONDBACKS AND ORIOLES both won their 1st games of the year on back-to-back nights (7/11 and 7/12) last week. ROBERT LOWE’S walk-off double for the D’backs capped an exciting 4-run rally in the 9th inning to defeat the Rockies 10-9. MIKE GRASSO’s new team had gone winless in it’s first 6 games of the season. The Rockies fell to 3-2. D’backs starter KYLE AUSTIN pitched well, but was the recipient of a number of errors, and fell behind 9-3 before his team rallied. Kyle also went 2-4 with a double, 2 runs scored and had 2 SB. JASON KNIGHT pitched 2 scoreless innings and won in relief. He also went 1-2 at the plate with 2 BB’s and 2 runs scored. TYLER PAYNE went 2-4 with a SB, and 2 runs scored. Robert Lowe also singled, in addition to his walk off double. The Rockies had a total of 9 hits, outhitting the D’backs by 1 hit. Justin Duncan had a double (only Rockies highlight received). THE ORIOLES (1-4) also won their first game of the year, beating the Copperheads (2-4) 6-3 at Salem HS. JUSTIN MCDONALD, manager, pitched 7 strong innings. (Only highlight received from this game).
