THE DOGFIGHTERS The A6M Zero was among the best dogfighters in WW2, and before the Grumman F4F Wildcat and the F6F Hellcat came along there was no match for them. After the war, the Japanese claim that it was only after a captured Zero was made available to US engineers at Grumman were the Americans able to build a superior fighter that would spell an end to the dominance of Japanese Naval Aviation. Of course, American naval historians disagree. The Hellcat was the exact opposite of the Zero. It was faster, well armored, and packed a load of firepower more than capable of ripping a Zero to shreds. It is against this backdrop, that Lt. Commander Robert J.
