THE FIRST COMING OF JESUS HILLSIDE HELPS- “But when the fullness of time was come, God sent forth His Son, made of woman, made under the law. To redeem them that were under the law, that we might receive the adoption of sons.” (Gal. 4:4-5) There seems to be so much focus on the second coming of Jesus that people often miss the truth revealed in His first coming. If people miss the message given in His first coming, it is doubtful they can understand the message in His second coming. There are three questions I will ask and then provide answers for each. When did Jesus come? It was in “the fullness of time” It was exactly as foretold by the prophets. (Micah 5:2-4) (Isa.9:6-7) Jesus first coming was according to God’s timetable and when the exact religious, cultural, and political conditions demanded by His perfect plan were in place, Jesus came into the world. He was not early or late, but at the exact moment God ordained. With some men time means nothing, but with God timing is everything. Jesus was not born that night because the stars lined up, but because God’s perfect will was carried out and fulfilled. God’s timing is always perfect. (Luke 2:6-7) Jesus came in a time when there had been no prophetic word for four hundred years. The world was in a mess. Four hundred years of weekly worship, seasonal feasts, each pointing to the coming Messiah. Their religion had left their hearts cold and calloused while their eyes were blinded. How did Jesus come? He was sent forth on a mission and by means of a miracle, the virgin birth. “God sent forth His Son”. There was day when the Father looked over to the Son and said, today is the day and the Virgin Mary was overshadowed by the Holy Ghost. The One conceived in her womb was God the Son, who was being sent into a world that he created, a world that would reject Him as Messiah. Jesus came and lived “under the law”, just like all others. Yet, He kept it perfectly, that which no other man had ever been able to do. Why did Jesus come the first time? He came to provide redemption. “to redeem that were under the law”. Man’s condition is summarized in Gal.3:10 “For as many as are of the works of the law are under the curse: for it is written, Cursed is everyone that continueth not in all things which are written in the book of the law to do them.” Jesus came to provide salvation redemption, “Christ hath redeemed us from the curse of the law, being made a curse for us: for it is written, Cursed is every one that hangeth on a tree.”(Gal 3:13) Jesus came into the world to die on a “tree” on the cross. There the penalty of sin was paid and for those who come to Christ, redemption becomes real. The curse is lifted and salvation is given. Today, I encourage you to better understand the first coming of Christ so that you can be prepared for the second coming of Christ. (Bro. Jerry McNeer) PLEASE SHARE
