THE NEED FOR URGENT INTERVENTION TOWARDS IMPROVING THE LIVES OF DISABLED CHILDREN IN SIERRA LEONE THROUGH EDUCATION AND LIVELIHOOD SUPPORT . The Abdul Miracle Disabled Childrens Foundation (AMDCF) is a charitable organization targeted towards developing and changing the general wellbeing of disabled children with primary focus on education in Sierra Leone. Sierra Leone emerged from long-decade civil war left behind multiple social problems ranging from prostitution, street children, teenage pregnancy, poverty etc. The organizations target is focused on disabled children who are referred to as special population are the most deprived, discriminated, malnourished, stigmatized and bullied by their care givers, parents and communities. Disability issues in Sierra Leone is still in the dark ages with little or not much from government and other development partners in addressing their problems. Disabled people otherwise referred to as people with physical challenges are the most unfortunate category of the people in Sierra Leone; they are highly unlikely to discover their full potential because the platforms are missing, the required institutions are lacking; the disabled children always faced a lot humiliation, hate speeches and social isolation in schools which divert their focus and become drop out from school. Some parents give in their children to charitable organizations and some even ignore their babies simply because they are disabled. Disability in Sierra Leone is regarded as mere waste and the best out of them is to become the societys outcast. Roughly, 89% of disabled kids drop out of school before completing high school as a result of the numerous challenges they are facing in Sierra Leone and the last resort is to become street beggars, gamblers and dependents till the end of their lives. Against these back drop, The Abdul Miracle Disabled Childrens Foundation (AMDCF) and team decided to change the face-lift towards the plight of disabled children with the primary focus of educating them, developing their skills and creating the enabling environment to reach their full potentials. With these developments, the organization and team cant do it all without the help of individuals, institutions, other organizations and charitable donors; there is great need for an integrated approach, support and cordination from you to ameliorate the status of children with disabilities in Sierra Leone. Disabled children need help, support and empowerment to enable them live a better life and discover their true talent. The organizations deepest concern is rooted from core values ranging from: A. Human dignity and worth of children with physical challenges. B. Education as a paramount key for children with physical challenges. C. Advocacy for children with physical challenges D. Improving the general livelihoods for children with physical challenges.
