THE NEXT BOOK: It was mentioned in the Maltese Falcon discussion, but heres the official notice; our next book is The Devil in the White city, by Erik Larson. Its our first non-fiction book. This book is about the building of the 1894 Worlds Fair in Chicago and one of Americans first serial killers, who took up residence in Chicago while the fair was happening. It was the 2003 New York Times bestseller, was named the San Francisco Chronicle Book of the Year and was a finalist for the National Book Award. It was also a 2004 winner of The Edgar Award (named after Edgar Allan Poe; I only say this because Paulas first book, The Mourning Hours, was short-listed for this award as well). Its also being made into a movie, and it looks like Leonardo DiCaprio will play H.H. Holmes, the murderer. The meeting is slated for DECEMBER 17 at Tresettis. Enjoy!
