THE PRESENCE IF GOd I woke up this morning in the middle of a dream in which I was preaching about the presence of God. I remember saying to a church packed with people, You must seek His presence. You must come to be in His presence. There is power in His presence. David did not want to be in Jerusalem without the Ark of the Covenant which symbolized Gods presence. Moses said that he did not want to go anywhere without Gods presence. The first thing I do in the mornings is pray. I could not get the thought out of my mind. Countless hundreds, maybe thousands, of churches are trying to do Gods business without His presence. It is like a groom who is singing to his wife on their wedding day. But instead of concentrating on her, he looks at the audience. He wants them to know what a great singer he is. He longs for their approval and not his brides. When Phinehas wife was dying, she gave birth to a son whom she named, Ichabod (lit., no glory), the glory is departed, because the ark of the covenant, the symbol of Gods presence was gone. She knew that her husband had died and her father-in-law, Eli the priest had died, but the scripture clearly declares that she named her son, Ichabod because the ark was gone (1 Kings 4:21-22). We can do without self-serving leaders and sinful examples in the church like Phinehas, but we cannot do without the presence of God. It is time our worship leaders stand humbly in the presence of God and sing under His anointing. It is time preachers preach what God tells them to preach without seeking the favor of men. It is time to bring back the altar where people are weeping in the presence of God. We need His presence more than anything else in the House of God.
