THE ROLE OF A WOMAN When two elephants are fighting,it is the grasses that suffer. This adage has many meaning but my own emphasis is on women. When a man dies, the wife suffers, when he commits a crime, she stays to swallow the shame, when he is not a good father, she protects him in front of the children and above all, these efforts are not been appreciated because in some tradition, women are been humiliated beyond measure when the man dies. With the help of women suffrage campaigns, women today have a NEAR equal opportunity with men. My question is,are we using such power to alleviate other women? In just concluded national conference,it was one man that raised the issue of rape. He suggested life imprisonment for culprits but he was silenced by other men. One man even asked if the latter has been raped before for suggesting such punishment. I was bitter when I read this because women were there and couldnt lend their voice to this man. Why are you there if you cant speak for us? Our first lady have good intentions for women and have shown it by empowering women recently almost in all the states but I want her to allow the people elect their own leaders. Two or three weeks ago,she came to Enugu and went to adoration with Ike Ekweremadu, deputy senate President a man in logger head with the states no 1 citizen then.(now Chime and Ekweremadu have arrived at mutual understanding) without visiting the government house, someone may say there is no first lady to welcome her but such visit is shady. Someone can invariably say she adopted Ike as your own candidate. Am not a fan of Saharareporters, but I read what the wrote concerning her adoption of some candidates. Mama peace, thats wrong because I dont think it is your job to tell people who will lead them. You are a pusher and passionate women, probably a feminist like me because two out of the three you want for the senatorial seat are women but we have to be objective and allow peoples choice count. Politically,Anambra has been chaotic since this present 4th republic,it is time to end it all and allow peoples vote count. We dont just want a woman but an individual that will serve the people well and protect the interest of women too.
