“THEOTOKOS” “Theotokos” is Greek expression denoting St Mary, meaning “Mother of God”. This term is used in the Oriental-Eastern, Orthodox & Catholic Churches. Nestorius, ( Patriarch of Constantinople from 428–431 AD), was the prominent who opposed this definition about St Mary, creating his much debated “Nestorianism”. Dyophysitism (dual personality of Christ) against the universally accepted Monophysitism (single nature of Christ) in Christology forms the other core part of Nestorianism. LENT & FEAST of St Mary—August 1st-15th--Assumption of St. Mary (canonical). September 1st- 8th --Birth of St. Mary (non-canonical) 1. If St Mary is not Mother of God, how God has taken His material image that the “Word may become Flesh and dwell among the human”? That is her unique position among the whole created order, very much directly and physically participating in the Godly mission of human deliverance. 2. Or the material body of St Mary was holy enough for the God to take His material shape from. 3. St Mary was the mentoring element behind young Jesus and also the inducing factor in the start of His public ministry (at the marriage of Cana), Jesus’ second phase of life on earth. Till then He was just another carpenter. She was the one alone who knew and conceived Him fully in His totality as the incarnated God almighty- the promised Messiah. 4. Disciples shattered away on His crucifixion and death. But it was St Mary who gathered them again undoubtedly awaiting a glorious resurrection, to form the strong foundation of His great Church, 2000 years old & steady today. ST. MARY IS PRECISELY THEOTOKOS; NOT JUST MOTHER OF JESUS. Orthodox Christian Interpretations....ATG.
