THIS DAY IN ARKANSAS WEATHER HISTORY... 1874-A late season freeze occurred at Helena, with a low of 32 degrees. 1929-A major tornado outbreak occurred in the northeast with at least 49 dead. An F5 tornado, the only one to ever strike Arkansas, caused damage from near Batesville to near Alicia. 1944-Tornadoes occurred from Magnolia to Parkin with 42 dead, at Mount Ida with one dead, and at Harrison. 1965-A tornado hit Conway, killing 6. 1995-Severe thunderstorms produce damaging wind in many areas. 2013-A tornado struck Botkinburg in Van Buren County, injuring four.
