TIPS ABOUT GK I refrain from commenting on GK topics, because it is not my field of expertise & students can easily obtain better quality material from elsewhere. I am, however, giving some tips about approach to the study of GK for students of competitive exams. First Point: In international relations there are no permanent friends or enemies, only permanent interests. Second Point: Insights are much more important than knowledge of current events. Explanation of Second Point by Example: It requires little ability to know exactly where, how many Indians were killed & injured in Pakistan cross border firing/shelling. What is important is to understand why we experience such behavior from Pakistan. Reasons, purely as per my perception, which are logical, are: • Pakistan Army is more powerful than any other institution in the country, closely followed by religious leaders. • Pakistan Army would like to maintain its pre-eminence, whatever be the cost paid by the nation. • To maintain pre-eminence it needs an enemy- that is conveniently India. If there is no enemy, or perceived threat to the nation created in the minds of the masses, Army loses pre-eminence (the perceived sole savior of the nation!). • Till such time as democratic institutions get adequately strengthened in Pakistani society pre-eminence of the Army will remain. • Till such time it happens, we can only experience talks & variations in the degree of hostility, but not end to a hostile attitude of Pakistan. In similar manner analysis of international relations should be done by students for exams & discussions. Know the genesis of problems, history of consistent events/actions, leading to formulation of views as regards anticipated future behavior. For more tips, visit my facebook page No Frills Academy.
