TODAYS DEVOTIONAL Sunday, 17th August. DONT SELL - TopicsExpress

TODAYS DEVOTIONAL Sunday, 17th August. DONT SELL YOURSELF Thus saith the Lord, Where is the bill of your mothers divorcement, whom I have put away? or which of my creditors is it to whom I have sold you? Behold, for your iniquities have ye sold yourselves, and for your transgressions is your mother put away. (Isaiah 50:1 KJV) Our text today shows that people actually sell themselves by their iniquities and sins. This may not make much sense to you until you have a proper understanding of what it means to sell. Firstly, selling is a transaction whereby something is given by one person in order to get or gain something else of value in return. Secondly, the moment such an exchange takes place, the one with whom you did the exchange becomes the new legal owner of what was exchanged. This creates a complete change of ownership with very strong legal rights. It means that you would have lost any kind of right over what was sold. Thirdly, the buyer does whatever he likes with what he has bought. All that I have mentioned is what happens to us when we engage in sins and iniquitous practices. By our iniquities we deny God the rights and privileges He once had over us as our owner and redeemer. By our iniquities we sell ourselves over to a cruel slave master called the devil. So every sinful practice is a potential sell out, every disobedience to God creates a change of ownership over your life. The worst part of this all is that satan starts to do in you and with you whatever he likes and however he likes, as your new owner. This explains why many people go through such a hard time trying to come out of certain bondages, sicknesses and even poverty. Our text reveals that they may have sold themselves out to the devil by habitual sinful practices. See what the word of God says about our sinful lifestyle: Surely you know that when you surrender yourselves as slaves to obey someone, you are in fact the slaves of the master you obey—either of sin, which results in death, or of obedience, which results in being put right with God.(Romans 6:16 GNTD) Here the amplified version of the same text: You do know it that if you continually surrender yourselves to anyone to do his will, you are slaves of him whom you obey, whether that be to sin, which leads to death, or obedience which leads to righteousness (right doing and right standing with God)? Id rather be a slave of God obeying the Holy Spirit. You can change masters right now by choosing to disobey those desires of the flesh in your life. Assignment. Begin to train your spirit and your senses to obey God even more than the desires of your flesh. Discipline yourself in the reading and study of the word of God so you can obey the word more consistently. Employ every means possible to both resist and vehemently fight every sinful desire of your flesh, knowing fully well that obeying them is another form of selling yourself out into slavery. Prayer. Lord, I receive grace from you today to hate iniquity and to love righteousness, in Jesus Name. I break off every yoke of slavery from my neck today, in Jesus Name. I deny the enemy every form of access in my life, in Jesus Name or it.
