TOMORROW, November 21 at 1:30 PM in Senate Hearing Room 4 the Senate Transportation Committee is meeting to discuss transportation reforms and included in the list of proposals is a bill that would: • Threaten our State Prevailing Wage program with inaccurate data and encourage dishonesty among contractors; • Greatly reduce Apprenticeship Utilization on all transportation projects; and • Eliminate the Apprenticeship Training Council The Senators in favor of these reforms have held the transportation budget hostage long enough, jobs and economic growth have been delayed for their political agenda and ideological warmongering. Members turned out all across Washington as the Majority Coalition held meetings for public input and we were all perfectly clear: do your job, pass a sustainable budget and stop spending taxpayer dollars to hurt Washingtons construction industry and economic future. Some have been asleep at the wheel and we must once again visit their place of business to communicate our position. We need maximum participation tomorrow. Our office, with the help of the State Labor Council, every member that joined us for the statewide listening sessions, and every member that has ever come to Olympia on Apprenticeship Utilization or Prevailing Wage issues have all made it clear that these are Good Policies and they in fact Save Money. We cannot let this small group of Senators undermine these historic policies. Next year will be a difficult one politically, tomorrow marks an opportunity when Building Trades members can remind lawmakers that we are Watching, we are Active, and we WILL NOT take their assaults on working families lying down! Join us Thursday as we call for passage of a Transportation Package Now and tell them to Back Off Prevailing Wage and Apprenticeship Utilization. What: Senate Transportation Hearing on Transportation Reforms When: Thursday, November 21 1:30pm Where: Senate Hearing Rm 4 J.A. Cherberg Building Capitol Campus Olympia, WA
