TOPIC: THIS IS JUST TOO CRAZY FOR ME I’m engaged to be married, and I’m concerned about a commitment my fiance, Jeff made to one of his female friends years before he met me. This girl and Jeff had agreed that if push comes to shove, he will be a sperm donor for her first child. Now, Jeff is one of those guys who always feels that he must honour his commitments even if it is to a total stranger. He discussed it with me and we both have serious doubts about this plan but she has really been working hard to make my fiance feel guilty if he doesnt agree. Then a few weeks ago, I got a call from this girl to tell me that Jeff agreed to do her the favour and to remind him that he had to make the donation by this coming Wednesday. Can you imagine the shock for me? After all we talked about, he has decided to proceed with that bizarre plan even though he is engaged to me? He tells me that its nothing and that she will never even bother us. He said he just wants to do good for his friend but that it is me that he wants to be with. Timeless, this whole thing has turned my stomach. How could he agree to such a plan without discussing it further with me? Doesnt he care how I would feel? Jeff and I plan on having children, and we also plan to leave Barbados in the next few years. I am wondering how this commitment will affect that possibility. I am uncomfortable with Jeff making a lifelong commitment to serve as a father to another person’s child, especially when he hasn’t established what it entails. Am I overreacting?
