TOWARDS THE COMING NIGERIAN ELECTIONS For so long our political landscape has been dominated by chancers and opportunists who have no clue to the problems bedevilling our society. Their main focus is to go to the government and loot. Their main mechanism for achieving this is the manipulation of electoral process: voters list doctoring, voters bribing, rigging and political thuggery. If all these can be nipped in the bud the atmosphere will be created to elect true representatives of the people. How? The voters list must be open and transparent. Voters must be discouraged from taking bribes from politicians because by so doing they are selling their future so cheaply and receiving suffering in return. Election must be properly monitored to discourage and counter any rigging attempts by unscrupulous politicians. Thuggery should be discouraged and countered. All these can be ensured through mobilisation of people right from the grassroot and particularly from all wards of each constituency to carry out these measures. Mobilisation can be done in groups with our youth at the core, through professional associations and through identified non-corrupt NGOs. The suffering of our people has shown that the old political way is no longer the right way. Let the Aegean stable be cleaned for serious minded, selfless people, with the service to the people as their primary focus and not service of their pockets!
