TROOP B - NEWS RELEASE May 17, 2014 Early Morning St. Charles Crash Kills Covington Man Boutte - Yesterday at approximately 6:40 AM, Louisiana State Police Troop B was notified of an injury crash that occurred on US 90 eastbound near Coronado Drive in St. Charles Parish. Preliminary investigation revealed that a 2002 Jeep Cherokee operated by a juvenile (W/F 16) was traveling northbound on Coronado and a 2006 Kawasaki motorcycle operated by Dean Jiles (W/M 23) was traveling eastbound on US 90 in the left lane. The juvenile disregarded a stop sign, proceeded onto US 90 eastbound, and struck the Kawasaki. Jiles was ejected from the Kawasaki sustaining injuries. He was transported to the Interim LSU Hospital LEVEL 1 Trauma Center in New Orleans where he later died. Jiles was wearing a D.O.T. approved helmet. The juvenile was restrained and refused medical treatment. Impairment is not suspected in this crash. Charges for the juvenile are pending review by the St. Charles Parish District Attorneys Office as this crash remains under investigation. Motorists need to remain vigilant at all times while they are behind the wheel of a motor vehicle. When entering a highway, you must look both ways multiple times in order to ensure that it is safe for you to enter the roadway. Troopers remind motorists to avoid distractions while driving. Distractions take a driver’s focus away from the road. When focus is taken away from the road, the serious injury and fatality crash rate increases.
