TRY TIME OBJECTIVE: Established in 2013 Try Time provides a safe and enjoyable environment where children with Special Needs can play Rugby League. These children are no different when it comes to following their favorite team and favorite players but there is a difference when it comes having an opportunity to play the game. There is a huge need within your community, you just need to reach out. Try Time provides the opportunity to play on a weekly basis promoting fitness, strengthening muscle tone, improvement in gross motor skills, social interaction & team work but most of all having fun and allowing them to feel equal. THE PROGRAM: The idea of the program is to keep it as real but modified to suit their needs. For an example ach player registered with the WUJRLFC and was provided with the same full kit, just like everyone else so they feel like Rugby League players. The program ran from approximately April 2013 to mid-August 2013 (16-18 weeks) and was be held every Saturday morning. A snap shot of the program. 8:30 am start Warm up Split up into age groups – (7 to 11) - (12 – Seniors). Training drills – to promote movement and improve gross motor skills in line with Rugby League technique. Break Game – modified version (no tackle). Depending on the numbers at the start will determine if parents become the opposition for the 7years to 11 years. We also enjoyed the teams from WUJRL Club who had the bye on the weekend come down to assist with the training drills and then play against them. This greatly benefited all involved and assisted in promoting awareness not only for the players but the wider community. The program runs for 1 to 1 ½ hrs THE BENEFITS: You and you respective clubs have the opportunity to make a difference within your community. What we have experienced is a new breed of Rugby League Players who have an enormous desire to play the game. Try Time provides the opportunity for these children and young men to actively participate in a team environment, expand their social interaction, and just feel equal – even if it’s only for a couple of hours a week. Your clubs players, families and members will engage and adopt this program. We have seen players from all age groups turn up every week to join in the training sessions and games. The amount of support you will receive from the whole club and wider community is something you have never seen – I guarantee it. It forms the catalyst to bond father, mother, siblings & sons or daughters relationships which have been somewhat disconnected and struggling for most of the childs life as they now have a shared passion. Truly, there is no risk or downside to Try Time. THE BENEFITS FOR THE RUGBY LEAGUE COMMUNITY: An exciting program that engages the whole club and the wider community. Greater exposure for your club within your local community. Greater exposure for your club within the wider JRL & NRL Community. Educate and engage the community that you can provide equality for people with “Special Needs” . Inject your club with something special and new that everyone is proud of. The Guarantee I give you is that if it doesn’t suit you environment I will be happy to register the players for you. Let’s create history together and provide an avenue for all people to play Rugby League.
