TUESDAY, January 28 John 5:6. Do you want to be made well? The man had been by the pool for thirty-eight years when Jesus asked him if he wanted to be healed. The man had been in his condition for a long time. Perhaps he had become comfortable with it or so accustomed to life in these circumstances that he no longer really desired to move on. That he knew the answer to the question was more important to him than to Jesus, since his healing would depend on his willingness to obey God’s prescriptive. “Do you want to be made well?” We all must answer this question if we want to overcome some crippling circumstance. Do we really want to overcome the injury or illness or other disadvantage, or has misery become a comfortable dwelling place? Do we want to be made well strongly enough that we are willing to swallow the bitter pill necessary to bring about our healing? Some remedies are simply too painful or require too much of us to do what is needed to become well. esus’ question is a heart question. Do we want to be made well? What do we, deep down, inside ourselves, want God to do for us? What do we want badly enough that we are willing to take up our mats and walk?
