TUESDAY, March 4 Philippians 3:8. More than that, I regard - TopicsExpress

TUESDAY, March 4 Philippians 3:8. More than that, I regard everything as loss because of the surpassing value of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord. For his sake I have suffered the loss of all things, and I regard them as rubbish, in order that I may gain Christ. When Hurricane Katrina hit in 2005, I was living in Hawaii. I had moved there from New Orleans only a few weeks before, so I watched the news on television and scoured the Internet for information about which areas were destroyed. The pictures showed deep flooding in my old neighborhood and around my brother’s house. After about two weeks, I was finally able to contact my family. I spoke with my brother, grateful to hear his clear and steady voice. We made pleasantries for a little while, and then I asked: “What will we do? Everything was destroyed, all your stuff, the houses.” My brother’s reply startled me: “It is just stuff. What matters is that everyone is okay.” He had lost everything on the first floor of his house. His words brought into focus what is truly important. Things are just things. Items may come and go in our lives, but our faith, our family, and the love of God will never leave us. With God’s help, our family really was okay.
