Tamenglong sets 7 days’ deadline for restoring power supply From Daniel Kamei/HNS/TAMENGLONG, July 2: After remaining as mere spectator for almost three months, the irritated citizens of Tamenglong have served an ultimatum to the Chief Secretary of the Government of Manipur through the Deputy Commissioner, Tamenglong for restoring supply of power in Tamenglong district within seven days from today. The ultimatum has also warned of launching intense agitations if the demand is not met within the stipulated period and categorically stated that the State administrative should be held responsibility for any eventuality in this regard. The ultimatum jointly signed by David Kamei, general secretary Zeliangrong Youth Front (Assam Manipur & Nagaland), Thomas Kamei, President Zeliangrong Baudi Manipur and Athanbou Pamei, President of Village Authority Chairman Council (VACC) Tamenglong called upon the Chief Secretary Government of Manipur; Managing Director (MD), Manipur State Power Distribution Co. Ltd; A.C. Power; S.E. power; D.G.M Tamenglong; Deputy Commissioner Tamenglong and three MLAs of Tamenglong district to rectify the problem of frequent black out in the district. “When the global citizens are marching ahead with technology, this district remains hungry for power for most part of the year. The onus lies with the callous altitude of the state administrative apparatus”, alleged the ultimatum. The memo also stated that the civil societies shall anticipate for a meaningful discussion within the said period for rectification of the power situation and lasting solution in Tamenglong district. Due to the frequent breakdown of power supply in the district, the general public is facing untold sufferings and has missed all important events telecast on television. People here too missed almost all football matches of the ongoing FIFA world cup. Many works related to electric current remain halted and many mobile cell phones were switched off. People have to go searching for shops where mobile cell phone can be recharged. It is also worthy to mention that the main reason for total failure of power supply in the district might be non-stationing of officials at the power station for a quite long time.
