Tea party conservative Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) stood tall against President Barack Obama’s health care law on Tuesday, vowing to speak until he could “no longer stand” in a bid to prevent Senate Democrats from restoring the Obamacare funds that the U.S. House voted to strip. “I rise today in opposition to Obamacare,” Cruz said at 2:41 p.m. ET. He referred to the law as a job killer and a “liberal train wreck.” Seven hours later, he was still going strong. Here are the top 5 moments from Cruz’s epic anti-Obamacare speech on the Senate floor…so far: 5. CRUZ COMPARES CONGRESS TO THE WWF “It’s wrestling matches where it’s all rigged, the outcome is pre-determined. They know in advance who’s going to win and lose and it’s all for show!” 4. #DEFUNDOBAMACAREBECAUSE: TED CRUZ READS YOUR TWEETS In addition to the #DefundObamacareBecause hashtag that was trending on Twitter Tuesday, Sen. Cruz also noted that the #MakeDCListen was also gaining steam. Cruz read a sampling of #DefundObamacareBecause tweets on the Senate floor on Tuesday, allowing the Americans to be directly involved in his effort to defund Obamacare. 3. CRUZ GETS BY WITH A LITTLE HELP FROM HIS FRIENDS Though some establishment Republicans, like Sens. John McCain (R-Ariz.) and Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.), have spoken out against Cruz’s anti-Obamacare effort, the Texas Republican got some help from fellow conservatives in the Senate on Tuesday. Cruz has been aided by Sens. Mike Lee (R-Utah), David Vitter (R-La.), Pat Roberts (R-Kans.), Jeff Sessions (R-Ala.), Rand Paul (R-Ky.), and Marco Rubio (R-Fla.). 2. DR. SUESS’S ‘GREEN EGGS AND HAM’ MAKES ITS WAY INTO SENATE RECORD In a heartwarming gesture, Cruz said he told his two daughters to tune into C-SPAN2 at 8 p.m. Why? Because he needed to read them verses from the Bible and then some of the Dr. Suess classic, “Green Eggs and Ham,” for their bedtime story. “Daddy’s going to be home soon to read to you in person,” he said. 1. I WILL SPEAK ‘UNTIL I CAN NO LONGER STAND Cruz took over the U.S. Senate “in opposition to Obamacare” on Tuesday, declaring that he would speak “until I am no longer able to stand. The senator from Texas can speak until Wednesday at around noon, almost 24 hours after he began his speech on Tuesday, at 2:41 p.m.
