Team roper Cory Petska and four-time World Champion Barrel Racer Sherry Cervi, who were married without fanfare in September, are the only husband and wife qualifiers at the #WranglerNFR. With a fifth-place finish Thursday night, Cervi has now earned checks in 11 consecutive rounds, the longest current streak. Four-time World Champion Bareback Rider Bobby Mote is just $39,458 away from becoming the seventh person to earn $1 million in WNFR competition, following Trevor Brazile - The Official Fan Page, Cody Ohl, Billy Etbauer, Cervi, Fred Whitfield - Gold Buckles Dont Lie and Joe Beaver. Rich Skelton, the eight-time world champion heeler, is just $48,777 shy of reaching seven figures, and four-time World Champion Steer Wrestler Luke Branquinho Fan Club is within $75,526 after his tie for second place on Thursday night. Kaycee Feild has been a dominating figure at the WNFR since his bareback riding debut in 2008, but never more so than in the second round. Since 2009 he has won the round outright three times (2009-11), shared the win (2012) and finished second (2013), averaging 87.75 points in those five trips. Tonight he draws Growney Brothers Rodeo Company’s Beaver Fever, a six-time WNFR selection. Branquinho has earned a bulldogging check in the second round in each of the last six years, including a share of the win in 2010 and three second-place finishes; he set the Round 2 record of 3.1 seconds when he won here in 2004. Cort Scheer, the Nebraska saddle bronc rider who won on opening night Thursday, is another contestant with a solid track record in the second round. He finished second a year ago, shared the win in 2012, was fourth in his debut in 2010 and has an average score for the round of 85.3. For four-time World Champion Bull Rider J.W. Harris, second-round success has been an every-other-year kind of deal. He’s placed in every even-numbered year since 2006, including a win in 2010 and two second-place results, but has been bucked off in every odd-numbered year. Oklahoman Sage Kimzey Professional Bull Rider is attempting to become just the second man in history to win the bull riding world championship in his rookie season, following Bill Kornell, who won the gold buckle in 1963. #ArenaAthletes #LasVegasNFR
