Technical Help: A very common thing, In generator engines, once you are lapping the valves, generally the valves are lapped together with the seat (same valve and seat) although we all know that their angles are different, by about 0.5 degrees or so, (in case of Daihatsu DK Series). Now, obviously, if this continues, then the lifetime of the valve and the seat will be greatly reduced. Also, the power developed and the load taking capability will be less, as in that temperature, when the valve expands, it will develop a little leak, causing the rise in exhaust temp at low loads as well as burning off the stellite surfaces. Then we will say that this engine is old and not taking more than a specified load. So, My question is this that how to actually ascertain the angle of the face of the valves spindles as well as the seat to be in a perfect order. Now, one possibility is that we can check the spindles and seat faces in lathe machine to check the angle, but as u know spindles are easy but we have to dismantle the seats from the heads everytime we do this. Again, putting back the seat is also difficult and sometimes results in breakage if its not cooled to a specified temperature. So should we continue to lap the valves on the seats and flush the surface with one another ? How many of you guys have actually ascertained the angles for valve and seat surfaces of a generator engine and how ? thanks and regards.
