Tengu finish first as Diablos fall one game behind Tengu finished in first place in the FABL regular season standing thanks in part to their 15-4 victory over the Curve, and a forfeit by the Diablos. Jonathan Combe pitched 4 innings and contributed a triple and two singles at the plate. Brandon Lurie went 2-3 with 2 walks at the plate and Tyler Allen had 3 singles. Jonathan Long had a 3 up 3 down 7th inning to cap off the win for Tengu. Zach Crane pitched for the Curve who fell to 4-6 on the year. #1 seeded Tengu will take on #8 seeded Rt 66 Mini Mart at 9 am at Flag High Sunday 8/11. Tengu beat Rt 66 Mini Mart both times the teams squared off this year. Johnathan Combe will get the nod at starting to pitcher as Tengu tries to defend their Championship from the 2012 season. Ryan Kelly will try and continue his offensive tear for Rt 66 Mini Mart. The #2 seeded Diablos will match up with the #7 seeded Law Dogs on Sunday at 9 am at Coconino High School. Charlie Hernandez will likely get the start for the Law Dogs and either Matt Levy or Clinton Moran will pitch for the Diablos. The Diablos beat the Law Dogs 8-2 in their only meeting this year. The Diablos won the FABL Championship game in 2011 and will look to do the same in 2013. The newcomers to the FABL and #3 seeded Cougars will take on the #6 Curve Sunday at 12 noon at Flag High. This promises to be a close match up as the Cougars and Curve split their two games in the regular season. The Curve will look to get back to the Championship game for the second year in a row behind their offensive duo of Torrance Burns and David Ruiz both Coconino High School grads. Cougars will likely pitch Jason Brooks who has proven to be the ace of their staff this year. And in a matchup between the two 5-5 teams, the #4 seeded Sportmans will face the #5 seeded Redsox at 12 noon at Coconino High school. Both teams had their best records while playing in the FABL during the 2013 regular season. Ed Kipp and Eric Lukkari the two managers will look to advance their teams to the second round of the playoffs which will be held 8/18. Playoffs are single elimination format.
