Testimony: In 1987 my wife and I were doing mission work in Rundu, Namibia. We stayed with a sister, Margaret Munango whom I had met in Mission School with YWAM Namibia. The LORD gave us much favour with the local people and the wind soon carried the message that we were staying amongst the Africans. We had been married just over a year and it was a truly divine experience to live with African people. To love them and receive the love that they had for us. During this time we also attended a Bible study for young people that were in the army at that time. My wife, Drienie, spoke on the subject of hearing the voice of the LORD and the young people were touched deeply. They started to recognize the wonderful voice of JESUS and our FATHER! He wants to hear our voice and He wants to speak to us personally. He is not a far-away distant Father. He is our ABBA FATHER!!! Father GOD created us to have a love-relationship with Him. The thing that amazes me to this very day, next to the great love that we experienced, is this: There are the following scriptures in Psalms 19: 1-3 The heavens declare the glory of God; and the firmament shows his handiwork. Day unto day utters speech, and night unto night shows knowledge. There is no speech nor language, where their voice is not heard. Their line is gone out through all the earth, and their words to the end of the world Without knowing anything about the way that the LORD later would lead my path in the study of astronomy and physics, I wrote the following entry into my daily diary of February 23, 1987. It comes from a book that I was reading of Reinhardt Bonnke, the evangelist that our Father uses in such an awesome way in Africa for salvation and divine healing. The book is called PLUNDERING HELL. I quoted the following in my diary: “The moment I laid my hands on her I felt the mighty flow of the power of GOD surge through my hands. I said to her: Sister, you are being healed!....in the ministry of JESUS He felt the power of GOD going out of His Body. Take for instance the woman that had the flow of blood for years….with every eye in the church focussed on them…..”In the name of JESUS CHRIST, blind eyes open!!! Little known to me on this day of February 23, planet earth saw the first time again in 1987 (and in the history books of modern astronomy) the open display of one of the most awesome powers visible in space: the explosion of a massive star in the constellation of Magellan. This explosion was so massive that it shone with the same combined light as that of its whole host galaxy! Can you imagine the power of such an event! How much greater is the power that surges through the hands of a true child of GOD that prays for somebody in the love of GOD. It is the same power that brought our planet and all the galaxies into being, it is the same power that raised JESUS from the death. But not to forget this fact: all this power came from the heart of love for GOD as a FATHER, to repair the damaged body of one African human. The LORD was using one child of GOD as a vessel for this. A man who desperately wanted to help the African folk under his pastoral care in Lesotho. Here are the facts of this deeply studied object that appeared in the sky from that day on, visible to the eye for a short period of time. The light of this explosion had just reached the earth after a journey of 170 000 light years!!!! It later on revolutionised the study of supernovae. SN 1987A was a supernova in the outskirts of the Tarantula Nebula in the Large Magellanic Cloud, a nearby dwarf galaxy. It occurred approximately 168,000 light-years away, close enough that it was visible to the naked eye. It could be seen from the Southern Hemisphere. It was the closest observed supernova since SN 1604, which occurred in the Milky Way itself. The light from the new supernova reached Earth on February 23, 1987. As it was the first supernova discovered in 1987, it was labelled “1987A”. Its brightness peaked in May with an apparent magnitude of about 3 and slowly declined in the following months. It was the first opportunity for modern astronomers to see a supernova up close and observations have provided much insight into core-collapse supernovae.
