Text: “... I have caused you to be carried away captives, and pray unto the LORD for it for in the peace therefore shall ye have peace.” (Jeremiah 29:7) G od commanded the children of Israel to intercede for the nations where they are carried into captivity. That should be the prayer of every patriot. As a Christian, you should pray for your country. Many Christians think that as pilgrims on the earth, they need not bother about the events in their earthly country. In fact, we owe the debt of intercessory prayer to the country we live in. Since God required captives to pray for their captor’s country, we should do much more as citizens. Therefore, Christian youths should not join their unbelieving peers to criticize their country leaders, policy and projects. We should emulate the following bible characters: Ezra, Esther, Nehemiah, Daniel, Paul and the apostles that interceded for their nation. If we fail to pray, we have no right to criticize our rulers because our failure might have contributed to their incompetence. On the other hand, believers in Christ can exercise decisive control over the affairs of their nation if they pray. Challenge: Our welfare depends on the general welfare of our country. Prayer: Lord, help me to start interceding for my nation from today. Further Reading: 1Timothy 2:1-4
