Thank you SOOOO MUCH Judith Berman. Please consider writing me a letter of recommendation if you have ever worked or volunteered with me over the years. Thanks for your consideration. Deb Oct. 4, 2013 To Whom It May Concern: Deb Rock is probably the most creative, passionate and organized person I know. As her student, volunteer partner and friend for the last 10 years, I have worked by her side on numerous short and long-term projects that have shown me what a warm, committed, responsible person she is. She sees the big picture, but she never misses a detail. She is task and goal-oriented, but always takes the time to build personal relationships. She is a motivator and a go-getter who makes things happen. And her word is gold. I have learned these things about Deb in a variety of capacities. Deb mentored me when I first joined the volunteer Giving Garden program she ran at Seattle’s Interbay P-Patch (community garden) from 1999 to 2013. I learned a great deal from her about how to grow organic vegetables on a large scale, how to recruit, motivate and retain volunteers, how to network to best effect, and how to conduct outreach to spread information and awareness. Deb has handed the torch to me, and I am now running the Giving Garden program at Interbay. As I became more involved in the Giving Garden, Deb recruited me to work with her on two other major projects. One was Blues for Food Fest, a one-day music festival that she started from scratch and pretty much ran single-handedly – without pay – for 7 years, raising money and awareness for the Giving Garden network. The other was the building of the Giving Garden network, which connects the dozens of giving gardens in Seattle and now has a website and fund-raisers of its own (more Deb initiatives). Deb did all these things in her “spare time,” i.e. when she was not working as household manager extraordinaire for a wealthy, demanding family. I watched her juggle all her responsibilities, paid and unpaid, and marveled at how she never once dropped a ball. I would say that Deb’s key strength is her amazing one-two punch of creative + organizational skills. On many occasions, I have watched her come up with a brilliant idea for a party/gathering/fund-raiser/event and then proceed to make it all happen, right down to the last fork, banner, candle and vase of flowers, not to mention publicity! Whatever show Deb puts on, it is guaranteed to be unforgettable. Another of Deb’s strengths is her ability to get people to do things. It’s very hard to say no to her persuasive charm and infectious enthusiasm! I would highly recommend Deb Rock for any position requiring creative thinking, organizational skills, a flair for style and hospitality, and a can-do attitude. I would say her particular specialties are anything involving hospitality, food and gardening, but frankly, she can do anything she is passionate about. Judith Berman [email protected] 206-755-6205
