If this list does not answer your questions sufficiently, please send an email to [email protected] FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS 1. How will my donation to the Soma Mine Disaster Relief Fund be used? The Soma Mine Disaster Relief Fund will disburse funds through TPF partners in Turkey. Read about these organizations here. TPF is focusing on organizations that are working to provide support to the families of the miners who have lost their lives, especially to children, who have lost their fathers, and on long-term healthcare needs, including mental health services. Additionally, TPF is committed to supporting organizations that contribute to the longer-term recovery effort. Criteria in our selection process include implementation capability, efficiency, financial strength and transparency. We will make announcements about where funds will be allocated in the future as we complete our due diligence on potential recipients. 2. Is Turkish Philanthropy Funds a nonprofit organization? Will my donation be tax-deductible? Turkish Philanthropy Funds is an American public charity, tax-exempt organization described in Section 501(c )(3) of the Internal Revenue Code. Following your donation you will receive an acknowledgment letter for your 100% tax-deductible donation. Please note that due to high volume of donations coming in, currently it takes about 48 hours to send out the acknowledgement letters. 3. What percentage of my donation will go to administrative costs? 100% of donations will go directly to organizations in Turkey contributing to the relief and recovery effort. Turkish Philanthropy Funds is absorbing the administrative costs of establishing the Soma Mine Disaster Relief Fund and processing donations. 4. I cannot access the link, is there a problem with the website? Due to high traffic to our website, our system went down couple of times. Our IT has been working diligently to keep up with the immense volume of traffic. We thank you all for your interest and support and ask you to be patient if you get an error page. 5. How long will you be accepting donations? As long as individuals, corporations and foundations show interest in supporting the longer term recovery process in Soma, Manisa, Turkish Philanthropy Funds will keep the Soma Mine Disaster Relief Fund open for contributions. As we know from past experience, the need is great not just in the immediate aftermath of a disaster, but also in the longer-term recovery process. 6. Is it possible to make a tax-deductible donation as an anonymous donor? Currently, it is not possible to make a tax-deductible donation and credit your donation as anonymous. If you’d like to do so, please call our office at 646.530.8988 to make your donation with a credit card. Please also note that our technical team is working to add an “Anonymous” field in the donation form. We understand your privacy concerns and appreciate your support of the relief effort. 7. I would like to set up a collection at my business, workplace, school, club or place of worship for the Soma Mine Disaster Relief Fund. Is this possible? Definitely. We encourage you to do so. Please contact [email protected] with your name, organization, contact information and brief fundraising plan so we can guide you. Thank you for your help! 8. Can my company match my donations? Thousands of companies match their employees charitable contributions, and TPF is eligible for many of these matching gift programs. Please search for “Turkish Philanthropy Funds” in your company’s matching gift portal. If our name is not in the list, please use our EIN number, 20-8392006, to enter TPF’s name into the system. We encourage everyone to ask their corporations to match their gifts since this will double the impact of your donations. 9. Can I rent TPF’s facilities for a fundraiser or partner with TPF to hold a fundraiser at your building? Due to limited resources, TPF is unable to accommodate onsite fundraisers. We appreciate your efforts and encourage you to consider the fund collection options outlined above. 10. Can I volunteer instead of donating? Currently, we need assistance to process donations in the office. If you can come to our office, please send an email to [email protected]. 11. I would like to donate non-cash items. Is this possible? We appreciate your enthusiasm and willingness to help the people of Soma, but unfortunately TPF is not in a position to accept gifts of this nature due to limited resources. 12. I would like to make a donation to be acknowledged in honor of, or on the behalf of someone else. Is this possible? Please email [email protected] and we will be happy to speak with you in hopes of accommodating your needs. The appropriate staff member will respond as soon as possible. Please note that we are also happy to accept anonymous donations. 13. I want to speak with the person in charge of the Soma Mine Diaster Relief Fund. The appropriate staff members can assist you in Turkish. 14. Has TPF run a disaster relief fund before? Yes. Turkish Philanthropy Funds established the Van Earthquake Relief Fund the day the earthquake happened on October 23, 2011. We have raised closed to $500,000 and donated 100% of the donations to 14 organizations providing relief and recovery. Please read more here. 15. Is it safe to use my credit card information on TPF’s website? Please note that TPF has an SSL certificate and your donations are processed on a secure server. 16. I have made a donation but cannot see my name on the donation list? Please note that we have been receiving donations non-stop so TPF site gets updates every minute. Your internet browsers cache stores certain information (snapshots) of webpages you visit on your computer or mobile device so that theyll load more quickly upon future visits and while navigating through websites that use the same images on multiple pages so that you do not download the same image multiple times. Occasionally, however your cache can prevent you from seeing updated content, or cause functional problems when stored content conflicts with live content.
