Thankgsiving 2006 was the last time i layed eyes on my dad, as i visited him and took him a diabetic feast in the hospital. December 8th i was on my way to work and got the horrible call from Nicole Wyatt Wade that they heard my dad was found in his own home during a snow storm. Hugely preggers my heart ached, i have yet to see the place my father was layed due to complications and doctors not letting me travel to Illinois and plain not being ready too. I keep the small things close, the license & the answering machine message with me telling him it was official he was having his 1st grandchild and it was a girl! the thought of did he lay there hearing that? was he dying while i called? was all the snow a way of preventing me from finding him?... the many things ill never know the answers to. the things i do know : my father was at terms with what was about to happen to him, maybe not in the way it did. The day the one who raised you, supported you and loved you threw all you could do wrong looks you in the eyes and tells you they say im crazy, they cant find anything wrong with me i think its just my time to go thats when you know the strongest person youll ever meet is right there standing in front of you..... i am thankful that man was my dad! that 1/10th of that was possibly installed in me to pass on to my kids. Im thankful he was at the point in his life he was ready to carry on in better health else where. i am thankful that he told me that and not to anyone else, i was extremely angered but now with my own kids i have nothing but respect for someone who can say that to there pride and joy. i am also thankful each of my kids know who there Papa Pat was and what he was about and i can laugh about the little things that i see in each of the kids thats totally my dad. thats my pre thanksgiving bahumbug- love your crazy family speach
