Thanks for the nomination Emily Aukett (you jerk, I guess misery loves company). Id also like to thank Ira Blum for his inspirational and informative challenge video, because Im going to borrow some of his words. Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis, a motor neuron disease also known as Lou Gehrigs Disease, affects about 1 in every 20,000 people. It has not only ruined peoples lives, but brought a devastating blow to families, communities, and even college campuses where loved ones like Tommy Grace, beloved husband to Becky Grace and loved by the Muhlenberg community, succumbed to ALS and are still remembered. The ALS Association announced that this year, between July 29th and August 16th, it had raised over $11.4 million in “Ice Bucket” donations for research and assistance, compared to $1.7 million raised during the same time period last year. These donations have come from existing donors and over 220,000 new donors to The Association. For anyone watching who hasnt heard of this challenge already, participants have the opportunity to get doused in ice water and make a smaller donation, or skip the brain freeze and just make a larger financial contribution to ALSA. I am going to do both, but I would also like to make a contribution to water.org. I think this challenge would have gone very differently if so many of us did not have access to clean water, and I feel it is only fair to give back what I dumped over my head. I now throw down the gauntlet and nominate Ross Kaplan, Allison Gray, Megan Nejjari, and Perin Colah. Youve got 24 hours to donate or get wet (hopefully both)!
