It is the case that more Chinese are keeping dogs and other animals as well-loved pets. But its not at all uncommon to hear about animals -- in Chinas crowded, traffic-choked cities; on farms -- suffering terrible abuse, or about cats, monkeys and other animals being kept in cages and then eaten.
